bombs in China or Russia?

The kind of crap you experienced is still directly related to 9/11. And after
all the developments afterward, I doubt we'll live to see anything like what
life was like before. It's a little like Germany just after the war. And the
Americans are still traumatized.

The whole mess began - for me - with Kennedy's murder. Then Vietnam, then the
hope after the fall of the Iron Curtain, dashed by 9/11, the multiple financial
crises since 2000, the Afghanistan adventure, then Iraq, now ISIS and a refugee
crisis. When have we really had a peaceful, prosperous time in this lousy
century?

I'm only glad to have lived most of my life in the last century, when things
were relatively stable and all we had to worry about were the Russians and the
A-bomb. (Apologies to our Russian readers, I naturally meant the former USSR).

Life nowadays is not the most pleasant I've ever experienced, and nothing
indicates any improvement.

Yes, I'm pessimistic. Without any reason for optimism, what is the alternative?
