          That's my take on it too.  We had various people advising us to
change all sorts of things when Nora had her stroke.  We changed some, of
course... but with others Dallas & I dug in our heels.  And as far as the
latter are concerned she's risen to the challenge, as we were hoping she
would....  :-)

          Thankyou.  Nora loved gardening in rehab, where there are very
similar beds.  As a toddler she'd been happy to keep me company & dig in the
dirt.  Then she seemed to lose interest... maybe at least in part, as I now
realize, because she'd always found it difficult to bend her knees.  With
raised beds one can sit
*or* stand, using the sides for support.  Initially Nora sat.  Lately she's
been standing, however, because she can get closer that way....  :-)

          Uh-huh.  I get the impression this person doesn't really want to
know. The tone of voice may be a clue in such cases... not everybody who says
"I don't know" or "I don't understand" is seeking enlightenment, although some
are.

          For a lot of parents it's especially difficult to recognize that
their offspring know things they don't.  And people may ask what they consider
to be a simple question, only to be even more baffled because the answer isn't
as simple as what they'd expected.  Some concepts can't be reduced to sound
bites....  :-)

          We have problems like that too.  Other folks see Nora climbing
stairs, for example... together with some careful orchestration by Dallas & me,
and some unusually strong motivation to reach whatever's at the top... then
expect her to do it every day.  If they understand the idea of an emerging
skill, it may help. But getting them to understand how exhausting these things
are for you or how to recognize when you've reached your limits may be
virtually impossible... (sigh).
