         Initially I thought much the same way... but when Article #1 aroused
my curiosity as to what sort of person Colin Campbell really was, I consulted a
few other sources of information about the circumstances surrounding his death.

         There's also quite a history of these "loyal subjects" getting fed up
& turfing them out!  One thing is fairly certain... tax collectors in general
have been unpopular since Biblical times at least.  The more I learn about this
event in particular, though, the more questions come to mind.  Until a few
years prior the Stewarts had been kings of Scotland.  They were turfed out for
reasons which
... AFAIK... had more to do with disagreement among the clans as to who the
king ought to be than with anti-royalist sentiments.  Colin Campbell was
appointed as manager of real estate confiscated from the Stewarts & it was
widely believed he planned to do a bit of "ethnic cleansing".  Either way, I
imagine many people in the district would have resented seeing their
hard-earned money going to support the new regime.  I'm inclined to sympathize
with the underdog here as well... if only because Author #1 tried so hard to
persuade me I shouldn't!  I'm suspicious of reports which are obviously biased
& prefer to draw my own conclusions.  It's not easy to find unbiased reports on
this issue... but there seems to be general agreement that Colin Campbell et
al. used some rather heavy-handed tactics.  :-/

         Dallas had cortisone shots in his shoulder recently.  Seems to me that
hurt too.  Cortisone is great stuff, up to a point!  You probably don't want to
get me started regarding the kind which is used for asthma & leukemia....  :-))
