Hell no! You just found me in another one of those transition periods. Just
today, I stuck both feet into changing the spare bedroom over from a single, to
a queen sized bed. I had been ramping this project up for some weeks now, and
I've got at least a few more weeks of work before I can let it rest. As such,
I've only been pestering one person on Fido, and I've marked your unanswered
messages as 'unread'. Now, I have so many mail packages in queue, and I
neglected to notate which one contains your posts. I'm hoping to browse the
message area, so I can download the works to catch up.

I don't recall telling you anything about my doings, so I'll just blurt forth,
and try not to marry Mary, 'cause the black sheep... Er, ah... I purchased
another lot of scratch and dent furniture. This one included a brand new
headboard, of which is now in my spare room. I didn't find any scratches, or
dents on it until I threw it in my window just days ago. (READ: *I* put every
scratch and dent on it.) I did some of the heavy lifting myself in small doses,
*widly* interspersed. As such, I've been in a bit of a fog again.

AH> Hoffnung cartoon I referred to there, the

JB> Never the oboe. I've heard their craniums shake with
 JB> the lower registers.

AH> I took oboe lessons for a year, so I
AH> think I'm qualified to poke fun at oboe players
AH> too! Many oboe players seem to be quite
AH> unconventional... and the common wisdom has it
AH> that the back pressure affects the brain. While
AH> they do tend to "march to a different drummer",
AH> however, I can relate... [chuckle].

JB> While everyone was blaming their hang-nails, and new
 JB> cream-rinse...

AH> Old saying... the poor workman blames
 AH> his tools. :-)

JB> While practicing trap, (That's the hip name for drum
 JB> set work.)

AH> I remember that, now that you mention
 AH> it.... 8-)

JB> I was asked to 'perform' for company.

 AH> Blechh. I wouldn't do it. I don't
 AH> audition either.... :-)

JB> "Don't you know how to play Marry Had A Little Lamb?"
 AH> |"Mary", i.e.
AH> unless s/he was into some
 AH> perversion I
 AH> don't know about.... ;-)

JB> I'm still at a loss for a drum set score for the nursery
JB> rhyme. Years later, I worked up a solo introduction based
JB> on Warner Brothers cartoon theme music, performed on traps.

AH> Oh, very clever! And why not?? These
AH> cartoons have popular appeal, which is exactly
AH> what's needed in such a situation... [chuckle].

AH> I'm reminded of the occasion when a
AH> primary teacher asked me to play THE MARCH OF
AH> THE THREE KINGS as background music for her
AH> class contribution to the school Christmas
AH> pageant. (No sweat. I could hide in the wings,
AH> which is where I like to be whenever I can't
AH> hide in the orchestra pit. If you haven't
AH> already guessed... I'm an introvert. I can read
AH> anything, and I find it quite funny how
AH> classical musicians panic at the sight of a
AH> piece of music they have never heard before.
AH> But as to memorizing or improvising... that's
AH> where other folks get a chance to laugh at me!)
AH> The teacher then asked if I'd pay a visit to her
AH> class & show the students the clarinet. (Sure,
AH> I'd be glad to.) After I'd arrived, however,
AH> she asked if I could play something else for the
AH> kids... and there I was with no score. (Oops!!)
AH> I did manage to play TWINKLE TWINKLE LITTLE STAR
AH> by ear, with all the right notes. That's about
 AH> my limit.... :-))

JB> Of all things, I imagine not holding a melody line an
 JB> asset. <ROTF>

AH> Yes, I can see why! I do know the
AH> second clarinet part for the Bray arrangement of
AH> GOD SAVE THE QUEEN by memory. But it's boring,
AH> especially when the other parts aren't there. I
AH> can play only one note at a time. You, OTOH,
AH> probably have all the makings of a one- man band
AH> except for the harmonica. ;-)
