"Born to be mi--- ---ld." <G>

I hope not. I just did another intimidation this last auction. I really
*didn't* need the box, but it was their last item, and until then, I had only
spent $5-$25 on every other lot. I knew I could afford it, and the vendor was
an interesting one to get "in" with. I considered it a tip to them of sorts,
and I still regained a thirds of the price *before* it hit the parking lot!
($20 recovered from a $60 outlay)

The auctioneer had some fun with me, and I never try to chisel any one of them
into a lower offer. (In bidding $55, when they are calling Sixty) Most of all,
both of us share some humor. If that recognition, and mutual respect, with a
few "We don't need you any more, we got a hot one right here." and me blowing
him a kiss doesn't pay dividends...

I'm absolutely going to attend their next auction, as they are professionally
run, entertaining, with good and bad deals to be had. I'll likely never buy a
laptop from them, (Boy, were they fetching good money!) but I'll probably buy a
few printers from the same house on Tuesday. I bought a handful from the same
guys for $2-$10 a few months ago, and have plenty for myself, considering I
only have 50,000 pages left on each, before I have to replace their drums.

Dad needs a printer now, and once I bundle a laser printer with every licensed
OS, and EOL computers I plan on selling, I'll have a new crop to replace the
ones leaving.

 AH> Intuition + perception

AH> Ah... so I was right for the wrong

I have another two auction found racks, one which will be donated to a young
musician that has been more than fair to me, and twice as helpful. I don't keep
records on this stuff, but for about $5, I'll offer him a $400 wholesale rack,
for actions above and beyond 'the call'.

They put good work into swag shirts. My buddy gave me a Zildjian "Ariginal" T,
and it's "In high rotation." <L>

 AH> trash is another's treasure. ;-)

AH> Gee, maybe I should have sent those
AH> plastic flowers to auction that I found in my

 AH> drama department. :-))

Silk plants seem to appreciate in value around here. Personally, I wish this
one house would never sell another, but I sure can't blame them for tapping
into this festering need to spend lots of money.

JB> Self deprecation is encouraged where I come from.

AH> Well, okay... as long as you're poking
 AH> fun at yourself! I said I was a klutz, didn't
AH> I? We've had a number of people in SURVIVOR
AH> over the years who were abused as children, so I
AH> tend to be a bit cautious with such matters.
 AH> :-)

Understood. I found growing up, ridicule was a staple treatment, and I've
witnessed other Ukrainians exhibiting the identical mannerisms to their
children. I sure didn't like it growing up, but now I see what it did to me,
and I don't consider it all bad. In order to "grow up", I made a concerted
effort to drop the trend, but it still sneaks in now and again.

In a milder form - I think... err, I *know* you've witnessed a taste - I try to
have fun, while I point out another's quirks. I'm far from batting 1,000, and I
do need to work on reading people, when someone may be too fragile, but I sure
weed out the insecure quickly. That may not be a good thing, but equally, not a
bad thing. Just a thing. I've opened up a lot of people, who always seem to
say, "I've never told anyone this before." as they start to question what I did
to open them up. Although that is always a good thing in my books, I've really
felt out of my depth on a few occasions. (This sounds like what I've told you
earlier.)

AH> Uh-huh. By the time you factor in the
AH> cost of moving you may find it preferable to
AH> stay where you are... maybe with a few minor
AH> changes. My parents lived in the city & went
AH> everywhere on foot or by bus. We have friends
AH> who say they can't afford to live in the city.
AH> They got a bigger house for less money, but they
AH> also own two motor vehicles per capita... where
AH> my parents had none... because nothing is within
AH> walking distance & the bus service is minimal.
AH> Seems to me their expenses are roughly equal but
AH> their priorities are different. :-)

As I said to the community education coordinator, the physical limitations have
to weigh in heavily to any decisions I make. Given better circumstances, I
would be in a developed property out of town by now, but alas... And that's
just a reality one never plans for, nor *could* plan for.

If at my worst, and living out of town any distance, the reality would come
that I have to move closer to a grocery store. I would have made a lot of
money, regardless of which plan of mine I was prepared to follow, but the scale
I was planingm, wouldn't have been attainable given my circumstances. Yet, the
world still turns. [-;
