Ärende: What's in... 4C.
=========================
On or about: 07-18-06 23:32, Ardith Hinton did engage James Bradley regarding,
but not limited
to: What's in... 4C.

JB> "Born to be mi--- ---ld." <G>

AH> Mrs. Middle-of-the-Road, that's me... [VBG in return].

L... I don't buy it for a minute!

JB> good and bad deals to be had.

AH> I must say, it does sound like fun.... :-)

I ran into an old friend at the last gov. auction, where three of use agreed to
go in on one flat of
old (4-5 year old) servers. Just before bidding, I suggested that two
individuals were going to be
our competition, and we agreed to up our top price.

We missed by about $50-$60, and I nailed one of the bidders as being our
competition, but the
other turned out to be a passenger in the same car as the second bidder I
pointed out.

I guess it's the psychology I get the biggest charge out of. Sure, the stuff I
drag back gives me
endless hours of entertainment, but you meet some *very* interesting people.

Walter, must be seventy at least - I ran into him while paying for our
respective booties. I
watched him spend $5 here, and $5 there all day. One of those $5, bought him
skid after skid of
modular office partitions, with AC wiring tracks, fixtures, and on-and-on. He
watched me buy
four anaesthesiology carts for $10.

I'm still very much an understudy to guys like Walter, and Frank, (I mentioned
about earlier.) but
when I drove by a friends house with one of these carts, I thought he was going
to slip on the
drool from his mouth. We used an engine hoist to unload it, as it weighs close
to five-hundred
pounds, and now, he has a government spec tool cady, once he strips the
plumbing, motors, vid
monitors, ICs, wire control harnesses, lights ... Well, you get the idea? <G>

AH> Hmm. You're a man of many parts, it seems.... ;-)

I wanted to buy some more tile today, but a three hour nap took precedence. You
got-a have
priorities. B-)

JB> a Zildjian "Ariginal" T, and it's "In high rotation."

AH> I agree. Nora saves hers for special occasions, though....
 AH> :-)

Well, my heavy rotation clothes has two piles. One for the good stuff, and one
for the stuff that
indicates it's time to do laundry again. My T too, comes out to my upper scale
t-shirt wearing
events. If I wear a button-up shirt over it, it is far less likely to be
covered up with the buttons.

JB> this festering need to spend lots of money.

AH> Nice turn of phrase... [chuckle]. There's no

Thanks! <L>

AH> telling what some folks will spend ridiculous amounts of
AH> money on, or if there is I don't have a talent for it! One
AH> of my former students, however, appears to be making a good
AH> living that way. He owns a store in our neighbourhood.
AH> The only thing I've ever seen there which interested me was
AH> priced at $400... beyond our budget. He is quite adept at
AH> spotting trends, though. I noticed that when he was in my
 AH> class. :-)

Fantastic!!! It has turned into a quite a science, but I think the more they
try to analyse it to death,
the more they have to concede it always has been, and likely always will be an
art. It's a special
talent, and an equally special talent for you to realize it while it was being
refined!

JB> and I don't consider it all bad.

AH> IMHO a certain amount of adversity in one's childhood is not
AH> all bad. It's like what some medical researchers are now saying
AH> about various "childhood diseases" and whatnot... that they
AH> give the immune system something to practise on.
AH> Unfortunately they can also have some nasty complications.
AH> But if you saw others being treated the same way at least
 AH> you knew it wasn't personal.... :-)

ROTF! A favourite item for me to point out. "Don't think you're special,
EVERYONE is hated
equally by Xyz."

A coworker of dads lives close by, and he happens to be a darned good
locksmith. Through
politics, him and his wife are shunned, and almost sold short. (Not an auction
reference!)

He asked the other day, if I knew why Bill, was shunning him. I asked for him
to elaborate, and I
noticed this distinct trend from "Bill" in the past. I parlayed something that
snob taught me years
ago. Something like, "If (Insert grumpy person's name here) *doesn't* have
something bad to say
about you, you must be doing *something* wrong." Indicating a trait in his own
self.

Bill tends to make snap judgements, and hold grudges. Our locksmith buddy, also
named Bill,
was perplexed why he was receiving a cold shoulder from him. He asked me "And
if he has
nothing but good to say about me?" "You're a big A-hole."

I parlayed how, for as long as I knew the fellow, I never really knew if I was
in his good books or
not, but his indications were as transparent as locksmith Bill was noticing,
and I suggested, "I just
reached a point where I couldn't care less about his fragile acceptance." and
"Don't take it
personally, because I've seen him treat everyone the same way."

 JB> In a milder form - I think... err, I *know* you've
JB> witnessed a taste - I try to have fun, while I point
 JB> out another's quirks.

AH> Fair enough, if you do the same with your own (as you
 AH> do).... :-))

Exactly! People without foibles are treated with suspect around here. On our
conversations here,
I peg you as a person with humility, and a humble nature. I'll always pick that
over cock-sure, and
without a clue. I've noticed at family gatherings, nobody is spared the dagger
when the chuckles
start, and that extends to in-laws too. Some they take it too seriously, but
they are never spared
just the same. When my family and I talk about each others shortcomings, we can
usually address
it head on. Sometimes it takes longer for them to realize it, but that's the
ebb and flow to it.

For years, I've been telling one sister to take time to herself. Get off that
treadmill. Who are you
trying to placate by running your butt off? Only this past weekend, at her
birthday, did she admit,
that she works about four hours a day, and on her day off, she does laundry.
But she did this
testimonial with a genuine smile, and a hearty chuckle. That's when I knew she
"got it."

... James
