I know one will accept a 900MHz VIA chip, and the ATX will take a Slot 1 CPU
(PII?)

Double to triple the speed - I'd say so. The first is a "Pocket PC", and the
third used to run 24x7 as a TV tuner/vid control centre. Linux is a SMOKIN OS
for the Pocket PC, and it worked the K6 better than W98 when I tried it
yesterday. 

Because I don't have three grand burning a hole in my pocket, I've been keeping
myself more than entertained on the antiquated stuff found in the trash, or at
auction. As for the accoutrement, I usually find some pretty interesting stuff
second hand.

Who wants bragging rights? I'm just looking for cheep to free CPUs that will
take these two boxes to their potential. No, if I have to pay more than five
bucks for either, I'd settle on what I have. 

I payed a pittance for every box in the house, and unless I can upgrade them
with equal economy, I'll have something to toy around with until something
better shows up. I found a AMD 64 box with SATA for six bells, but at the time,
I blew my spare cash budget on hardwood flooring, and desperately needed
furniture. 

Sure it would be nice to be on the bleeding edge, but the car also needed
exhaust work this year, and the roof was treated to new shingles last fall.
Tell you what, if I find those "Evergreen" CPUs that will fit a few old Compaq
servers, I'd even entertain pulling those out of the recycling queue. Those
even have native RAID drive controllers. They'll also run 1G of RAM! Mind you,
there's quite a bit of gold in them yar rigs. {-|[

Chances are, I'll just pick something up from auction, and I'll only have to
pay a little more than the scrap dealer. <VBG> There were some rackmount Compaq
servers there, that I'll just bet can run four CPUs in a SMP arrangement.
Imagine a Beowulf cluster of those!
