Oh, I've always been here. I read the postings every day and ponder, etc.
I might not say much sometimes (don't get me started) but I'm always
here.

The weather did suck for a while... my ISP even went down for a few days,
seems a T3 in Richmond got wacked when flooding there left commo cable
bundles under 14 ft of water for a few days. Around here it blew a lot,
and then it rained and rained and then rained some more and of course the
normally nice river from which the city here took its name (Roanoke) ended
up 19' over its normal banks. And, since the city straddles the river, we
got a little wet. I left the Corvairs at home on the hilltop and went
out in it with a dinky little 4WD (Suzuki Samurai) to play, came back (when
I was finally able to get back) covered in mud.

....and a good time was had by all... ;)

I have always patted myself on the back for purchasing a house atop a large
hill, ever since Fall of 1981 when I had the dubious distinction of
experiencing flooding up close and personal in a rented house in a hollow,
and enjoyed the times scraping mud off floors and doing 15 loads of muddy
laundry... after cleaning and drying out and recommissioning two flooded
cars and a motorcycle. I promptly moved the following summer into the
house I own now. Living atop a hill is fine during flood season...
except when you have to go somewhere else. By the way, that same rental
house I moved away from ended up with mud stuck to its ceiling during The
Flood Of '85 when Hurricane Juan came to visit, stalled over the Shenandoah
Valley and dumped 11" of rain on us... after we'd already had 6" of rain
the week before. The Roanoke River went nuts, 29' over its banks and
enveloped 3/4 of the city including all of downtown and backed up the
street drains to flood other places ten miles away from the river.
Strange stuff. A guy drowned in his Subaru station wagon at the bottom of
the hill when his car was swept off the highway by rapidly approaching
flood waves. His car was swept up into an oak tree where it was jammed
into the branches and remained hung there for two days before they got it
pried out with a crane. I awoke that morning to the sounds of thundering
rain coming down so hard it was like a subway on the roof. In all my life
I'd never seen rainfall that hard and intense.

....found myself on an island...

But I digress...

Anyway, now that ENT is back again (in a time slot that, historically,
truly sucks) there will be things to talk about in this forum. But,
according to TV gurus everywhere, unless something miraculous happens it's
looking as if this could possibly be ENTs last season... unless of course
it gets moved again.

Usually.

However, in this day and age of videotape and Tivo it may not be the death
sentence it was for TOS... maybe... time will tell. If the point is to
get the show watched (and thus sell products advertised) it doesn't really
matter much when the show actually airs, if it's going to be watched a day
or so later... although it's arguable that commercials can easily be
skipped past on tape/Tivo etc. This age of videotape and Tivo makes me
wonder if such timeshifting of programming has had any effect upon how
ratings actually work.

Either way, we'll see soon enough, I suppose.

Actually, Friday nights I'm usually not out anywhere. It's Wed nights
that I'm usually at the "shop" during the car club tech sessions which last
for several hours etc which means I'd always have to tape ENT and watch
later. So, actually, Friday nights are good for me, Trek wise. But
maybe not for everyone else who may actually have a life.

tony..
