Not to mention TNG's "The Wounded" with O'Brien's old captain or even Miles'
own views on Cardassians...
But still, it's strange thing to see, especially as wide-spread as this
supposedly was, on a Roddenberry-inspired show. Not that I think it's
wrong, per se, especially for a show that's a prequel. And, even then, I'm
inclined to think that there's always a little room for a few dark corners
in realistic universe...

Given the Vulcan population, I would actually think that the pre-disposition
to have five letter names starting with "S" and ending with "K" (a la Surak,
Sarek, Spock, Sybok, et al) would be too much of a limitation, especially if
we leave it to names that can be pronounced by our human tongue (no
"Sbdqk"). I have no idea how many names that would be (I assume the only
way to do so would be by brute force, trying out letters until one managed
to find all the pronouncable ones... and even I have too much of a life for
that :-).

On the other hand, they've been much more consistent on Vulcan female names
generally starting with the "T" prefix, as in T'Pau, T'Pring, T'Pol, and now
T'Les. Of course, there are exceptions here, too, with Saavik and Valeris
from the movies and Sakonna from DS9's "The Maquis."

Maybe they thought his head was going to explode and they didn't want brain
all over their clothes... or those messy conversations with whatever passes
for police in the 22nd century.

I don't know about "the whole time." He seemed to genuinely want to find a
way to help her fulfill the marriage agreement by offering doctors and such,
at until he tried to bribe her by letting T'Les off the hook at hte Science
Academy.

That said, this isn't too far afield from what T'Pring and Stonn pulled on
Spock. It might've been the opposite result they were hoping for, but the
technique was similar.

Perhaps, but that would be taking the humanity out the of the question.
Just because you know the math of something doesn't make you feel it any
less. After all, psychology is hardly a black and white issue, it's more a
study of greys.

But, more to the point, losing people in the mission to stop the Xindi is
quite a bit different than an accident on an early space vehicle. This was
more of a conflict with the deaths based on decisions that he made. It's
more survivor's guilt than anything else.

> This is also another element that doesn't come off quite right...

But wouldn't the disagrreement betwee Spock and Sarek that last years
similar fall under the same category?

> Evidently, in this time frame Vulcans have not yet tamed their emotions...
> YATI.

Why else do you think that needs "fixing" by the upcoming Vulcan arc.
Besides, very few actors who have played Vulcans over the years have really
came off that well...

> > As she leaves, T'Pol tells her mother that would be none of her

>
> A snippy retort... emotional remark. YATI.

From T'Pol? From the beginning, she's been the most un-Vulcan like of the
Vulcans we've seen regularly. Add the emotionalism caused by her Trellium-D
addiction and any kind of outburst wouldn't surprise me much at all.

> This was supposed to indicate that the doors between Soval (another non
S&K
> Vulcan name) and Archer have opened, but it's too easy.

I don't really think so, as there's a point that even the most arrogant of
persons has to acknowledge that something big has changed. I also suspect
that it sets things in play for the Vulcan arc in a few weeks. Also, I
wouldn't be surprised if that hatchet isn't completely buried, just yet.

In the context of the Vulcan mind, though, I can see how such a position
could be maintained. It would be illogical, for example, to ignore Trip's
feelings which are just about on display for everyone to see. Plus, Vulcans
do have emotions, as has been stated a number of times, but they just don't
necessarily act upon them -- which might mean she'd be willing to do
something that would go against her best interests.
