I think you're exaggerating here.  The Augments were very one-dimensional, 
IMO. We have no clue about their individual wants, needs, ideas or goals. 
We know that they're bad guy supermen who look down on humanity as inferior 
genetic predecessors and nothing more. Maybe we can add the slight 
dimension that they exhibit some of the same flaws as some typical human 
villains, but that's not much. Perhaps the individuals will get fleshed out 
more in the rest of the story arc.

Or how about the almost word for word Khan speech where the Augments 
claim  5 times human strength and twice the intelligence?  This must come 
out of the Augment training manual. :)

There was humor?  I guess there were a few typical wry Spiner asides, but I 
don't recall anything remotely TOS-like.

Despite my comments above, I agree that it was the best episode of the 
season. I'm guessing that some of the shortcomings will be laid to rest as 
the arc continues and reaches its conclusion over the next couple of 
weeks.  There was plenty of set-up to accomplish and it was all done with 
style - though the whole bit with the Orions was pretty much a diversion to 
this point; hopefully they'll have a role in what is coming during the 
season to make some sense of the screen time that was spent there in 
Borderland.  Now I trust the writers to build on what they've set in motion.
