Ärende: Romulans hiding in the we
=================================

OK, the game's afoot!

There should be a spoiler space here, just in case.

Several things in this story arc got resolved... sorta. Or at least,
explained... maybe.

Mr Slimy Vulcan Administrator's behavior is now a bit more clear. And
what the Hell is going on in the catacombs? I sorta wondered about Mr
Administrator (still can't quite get the spelling of his name right) V'lass
(?) in that it almost seemed like he was acting more like a Romulan than a
Vulcan, and then we see him in the "basement" after being run outta town on
a rail (figuratively) although not tarred and feathered, unfortunately.

Now all becomes clear.

And we have a whole new story arc to wonder about. Earlier I'd made the
argument about how it could NOT have been that much of a mystery as to
whether Vulcan ever managed to "forget" about the split in their culture
all those years before... likewise the Romulans wouldn't have forgotten
about it either. Logic suggests that regardless of whether or not time
had passed, these people wouldn't have forgotten everything about one
another to the point that during the first encounter in TOS "Balance Of
Terror" we hear Spock speculating about Romulan ancestry. YATI...

And, if Trek history is being written as we speak, this incident in the
"basement" with V'lass and his "associate" does answer a few questions and
in fact lends some validity to points which would certainly have surfaced
along the way before the Fed/Romulan War... where nobody ever got to see a
Romulan. That notion never really did make much sense... and there's
such a rich Trek history in place at this stage of the game, TPTB should
lend some rationality to the story as it unfolds in this time frame so as
to tie up a bundle of loose ends that had dangled all the way through TOS.

At least they have a chance here to do so. It should be interesting to
see how they handle the "Romulan Issue" in ENT.

By the way... those who saw the Special Edition episodes of TOS with the
interviews likely will have recognized Romulan Subcommander Tal's Jack
Donner making another appearance in Trek, this time as the Vulcan Priest
who takes Surak's Katra out of Archer. Nice touch...

And I am so smug in seeing my prediction about Koss come true. He had to
release T'Pol from the marriage one way or another, no way around it. He
even did it in a relatively honorable manner, thus redeeming himself as a
not quite so slimy Vulcan out to achieve his purposes via devious
activities. It was sorta gratifying to see him do so without being
forced to do it or end up in a lurch with the legal authorities for some
reason.

Now T'Pol and Trip have something new to talk about...

And Vulcan gets a whole new style of thought. My question is whether or
not Archer will remember how to perform the neck pinch. I also wonder if
we're gonna be seeing T'Pau again. TPTB spent some time defining her
character in this arc... seems a shame to let it fade. Lots of
opportunities here, what with this shift in Vulcan policy, which certainly
is gonna smooth a few things over on Earth. Soval might even be able to
lighten up a bit now... and the Andorians are even finding some newfound
respect for everybody they used to despise (which of course was everybody).
Dang... we may end up with some happiness and progress and maybe now
Vulcan will share a little of that shielding technology with Earth so
Archer and Co won't have to keep dealing with hull breaches and air leaks
every time somebody throws a rock at them.

Now we need to find some sort of Earth technology the Vulcans don't have
which would impress them enough to make them consider some horsetrading,
tech for tech, so as to maintain an even playing field since they're
clearly ahead of Earth in most areas.

I for one am waiting to see the next new episode, following the holiday
reruns which I'm still gonna be watching again.

Enough of my ramblings... Kevin will be coming along with his detailed
report and commentary which certainly will be more involved than my remarks
so I need not rattle onward.

Suffice it to say I liked this episode and the entire Vulcan story arc.

tony..
