ST: The Original Series Night Before Christmas
adapted by Karen J. Key Speck (1994)
with apologies to Clement C. Moore

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the ship
Not a control panel was buzzing, not one microchip;
The phasers were hung in the armory with care,
In hope that some alien would not hardly dare.

The crew was all nestled warmly-snug in their quarters.
(Except for a few transporting borders.)
And Kirk in his skivvies and Rand in her teddy
Had just settled down for a romantic beddy.

When out in the turbolift there arose such a clatter,
Kirk sprang from his bed to see what was the matter.
"Red Alert" lights were flashing and the crew ran amok.
Scotty pounded the lift button wondering why was it stuck?

The lights on the bridge had grown dangerously dim
and Kirk was heard muttering, "It can't possibly be him!"
When what to his wondering eyes should appear,
But a Bird of Prey and eight mighty Klingons to fear.
With a Klingon Commander so fierce and so cruel
Kirk knew in a moment that he had to duel.

Captain and Spock promptly ran to the bridge
When suddenly the ship rocked and came to a skid.
In space it stood idle while dampeners cushioned the shock
As Commander Kor laughed headily making the Enterprise rock.

More rapid than torpedoes his phaser blasts flew,
And he whistled and shouted and proved that he knew
Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock, Lt. Sulu and Bones,
Pavel Chekov, and Scotty and Uhura in headphones.
"To the top of their bridge, to their starboard nacelle,
Now blast away - fire - target their hull !"

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky.
So to their transporter room, the Klingons, they ran
With bahtlevs and honor and knives in their hand.

And then in a twinkling transporter beam,
Kor appeared on Kirk's bridge with an away-team.
As Kirk drew in his breath and was turning around
Kor drew his disrupter with nary a sound.

He was dressed all in leather from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all smelly and covered with soot.
A sash on his chest and sword on his hip,
Kor looked like a Klingon who wouldn't take lip.

His eyes, how they burned. His whiskers how hairy!
His cheeks were all scarred and looked mighty scary!
His sinister mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the breath from his lips smelled mostly like coal.

The stump of a hand showed from under his sleeve,
And his hatred inside leaked like a sieve.
He had a broad face and a round barrel chest,
That shook when he cursed like an alien possessed.

He was wicked and mean, and held quite a grudge,
But Kirk waited no longer and made a big lunge.
The red-shirts reacted with quick twisting heads.
Spock went for his phaser while showing no dread.
The crew spoke not a word but went straight to their work,
And killed all the Klingons, then turned to James Kirk.

And pointing a finger aside in the air
He gave a nod of praise to everyone there.
Scott restarted the engines, Sulu plotted their course,
And away the E flew like a Pegasus horse.

But I heard them exclaim as they warped out of sight;
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!"
