Oh, I certainly would, provided I was sure the cocept was legit.  After all,
with what a Trek novel costs, we're talking about less than two books...

Now that is a good idea...  Of course, the problem would be finding someone
who is both trustworthy and could attract enough attention to the cause.
Three million people may watch Trek on a weekly basis, but only a fraction
of that even occaisonally looks at a Trek website or newsgroup.  And, of
those, a certain amount wouldn't be motivated or necessarily feel they could
part with that small sum of money.

Heck, I'm not even sure how Paramount would react to such an idea.  It is
possible that they might reject the idea out of hand, but I couldn't see how
it would hurt for organizations like saveenterprise.com to focus on doing
something like that instead of trying to raise money for a ad in USA Today
(their current campaign) or whatever, especially if a failed attempt would
lead to money for charity.

I think a prequel movie might've been a heck of a lot easier than a series,
but with some exceptions like the way Vulcans were presented early on, I
think they did a passable job.  Of course, I also have no doubt that the
wildly (commercially, at least) successful STAR WARS prequels had something
to do with it...

Hmm.... but if they go for that, why not just go with what George Takei has
always wanted -- "the adventures of Captain Sulu."  I don't think that's a
bad idea, as the Trek novels spotlighting this era have generally been good
and it is about as close to a direct sequel to TOS as you can get.  OTOH,
even as one of the younger members of the TOS cast, ten more years would be
a long time...  Still, if they were going to do a 40th anniversary TV movie
project (which is just a year and half away, so it seems unlikely), that
would probably be a good bet, especially if they could set it before the
launching of the Enterprise-B and incorporate a Shatner appearance.
