Well, after installing 2006.1 using the GUI installer and doing the GRP option,
I have found that there are a few bugs.

For example, on my system after it was finished, I rebooted into my new Gentoo
GRP setup to find several errors during init, one of which is understandable,
but the others were dump mistakes (Hey Devs, you make this distro, don't you
know how to configure your own distro? duh duh!).

The errors and their fixes were:

1.)

This one is understandable since it installed the "genkernel" which is
precompiled and uses the supplied initrd. During init, there was an error
finding "/System.map" during the updating of modules.dep. Well, after going
through the script /usr/sbin/update-modules I figured out that it's not
/System.map that it's looking for! It was actually looking for
/usr/src/linux/System.map ( {$cfg}/System.map  <-- or something like that ).
The easy fix was:

     cd /usr/src && mkdir genkernel && ln -s genkernel linux
     cp /boot/map /usr/src/linux/System.map

2.)

The fact that most of the GRP packages are generaged from the Live CD seems to
leave behind this problem as well. You'll find that /dev/null is *missing* from
/dev. I'm not all that knowledgable about making device files, so I just did
"emerge udev" and by rebuilding udev I solved that problem.

3.)

The network config was ALL screwed up. (This is the duh duh! part.) After
install, this is the two lines I found in /etc/conf.d/net:

iface_eth0="( "192.168.0.20 broadcast 192.168.0.255 netmask 255.255.255.0" )"
routes_eth0="( "default via 192.168.0.1" )"

The first line is actually correct for pre 2006.0 releases. You get a warning
about using a deprecated format. The second line, however gives a nice error:
"via: no such filename" Even in the old format, you used "gw". Honestly, it's
just like using the route command, only you're missing "route add" in front. So
the config lines are supposed to look like this:

     config_eth0=( "192.168.0.20 netmask 255.255.255.0" )
     routes_eth0=( "default gw 192.168.0.1" )

Note that "iface_eth0" is replaced with "config_eth0" and I have removed some
unneccessary quotation marks as well. Who wrote this portion of the install,
and what were they smoking/drinking? :P

Things I have yet to fix:

1.)

Ext3 is complaining that my superblock's time is in the future. Yet another
thing I don't have a problem with when using the old manual installer. :/

2.)

Udev is using some sort of deprecated random number generation? I get a weird
error that includes the words "number", "find", and "%e", and a complaint about
whatever that is being bad idea ("don't use it") and that it's also deprecated.

So, to sum things up, the installer is off to a great start, but if you do a
full GRP install, it has quite a few nags left over for you to fix when it's
done. I like to do a normal stage 3 and compile everything after the bootstrap
myself, and the installer supports that, so I will try that next and see what
kind of results I get.
