Description
W32/Sober-J is a variant of the W32/Sober mass mailing worms family for
the Windows platform that harvests email addresses from the infected
computer's hard drive.

W32/Sober-J checks the country origin by the comparing the domain
extension with those within a pre-defined list and will send its mail in
either English or German depending on the domain.

W32/Sober-J creates the following files in the Windows system folder.
Some of these files are used for storing harvested information and
others are encrypted and/or packed worm copies:

datamx.dam
dgsfzipp.gmx <text-ascii>
mail_text-info.
nonrunso.ber
Odin-Anon.Ger
read.me
sysmms32.lla

where text-ascii files contain base64 coded encrypted ZIP packed worm
copies.

W32/Sober-J copies itself to the Windows system folder as an EXE file
with a name that is constructed from the following strings:

32
crypt
data
diag
dir
disc
expoler
host
log
run
service
smss32
spool
sys
win

In order to be able to run automatically when Windows starts up
W32/Sober-J sets the registry entries:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\<random name> =
<random filename>

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\<random name> =
<random filename>

where random name is a string constructed from the list above (each
registry entry may have a different random name) and a random filename
corresponds to the worm copy filename.

W32/Sober-J checks the country origin by the comparing the domain
extension with ones from the folowing list:

.de, .ch, .at, .com, .gmx

In cases where the domain extension matches a German variant the email
language will be German, otherwise it will be English based.

W32/Sober-J may arrive in an email with the following characteristics:

If spread in German:

Message body:

Winzip kleiner gemacht.

If spread in English:

Subject line:

I've got YOUR email on my account!!

Message body:

Hello,
First, Sorry for my very bad English!

Someone send your private mails on my email account!
I think it's an Mail-Provider or SMTP error.
Normally, I delete such emails immediately, but in the mail-text is a
name & adress. I think it's your name and adress.

In the last 8 days i've got 7 mails in my mail-box, but the recipient are
you, not me. lol

OK, I've copied all email text in the Windows Text-Editor and i've zipped
the text file with WinZip.
The sender of this mails is in the text file, too.

W32/Agobot-PN is worm which attempts to spread to remote network shares.
It also contains backdoor Trojan functionality, allowing unauthorised
remote access to the infected computer via IRC channels.

W32/Agobot-PN copies itself to the Windows system folder with the
filename BCVSRV32.EXE and sets the following entries in the registry so
as to run itself on system startup:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\
Bcvsrv32
bcvsrv32.exe

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices\

W32/Agobot-PN spreads to network shares with weak passwords and via
network security exploits as a result of the backdoor Trojan element
receiving the appropriate command from a remote user.

W32/Agobot-PN attempts to modify the HOSTS file found in the drivers\etc
subfolder of the Windows system folder, preventing access to certain
websites by mapping them to the loopback address as follows:

Prevalence (1-5) 2

Description
W32/MyDoom-AR is a mass-mailing and peer-to-peer worm which emails
itself as an attachment to addresses found on the infected computer.

When run the W32/MyDoom-AR will launch notepad with garbage which serves
as a decoy.

Advanced
W32/MyDoom-AR is a mass-mailing and peer-to-peer worm which emails
itself as an attachment to addresses found on the infected computer.

When run W32/MyDoom-AR will launch notepad with garbage which serves as
a decoy.

When first run the worm copies itself to the Windows system folder as
lsasrv.exe and creates the following registry entry so as to auto-start
on computer reboot:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
lsass
%SYSTEM%\lsasrv.exe

On Windows 2000 and Windows XP systems the worm will also modify the
Explorer shell association by changing the following registry entry
from:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
Shell
explorer

to:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
Shell
explorer %SYSTEM%\lsasrv.exe

W32/MyDoom-AR may also create a file hserv.sys in the Windows system
folder. This file is non-malicious and can be safely deleted.

W32/MyDoom-AR will attempt to copy itself to peer-to-peer folders of
KaZaa, Morpheus, iMesh, eDonkey2000 and LimeWire using the following
filenames (with an extension chosen from: PIF, SCR, EXE OR BAT):

NeroBROM6.3.1.27
avpprokey
Ad-awareref01R349
winxp_patch
adultpasswds
dcom_patches
K-LiteCodecPack2.34a
activation_crack
icq2004-final
winamp5

The worm also attempts to remove previous startup registry entries of
