EV>> If M$ wrote the OS's Correctly the Registry wouldn't be such a
 EV>> bother.

RW>> It's no bother, it just takes its sweet time getting around to
RW>> allowing your PC to boot.

EV> I'll say AMEN! to that! Brer Roy!,

EV> 'Sweet Time' is the Right word to describe Booting Up a modern
EV> computer, in this day and time.

RW> I'd change that to sweat time...

Brer Roy,

Yep!, sometimes I sweat wondering when it will let me see the Log On
Screen so I can finally get to do something I turned it on for that I
wanted to do.

EV> The Commodore 64 Booted Up before I could take a second breath,
EV> and shut down just as fast, Except maybe for the C= GEOS GUI Prg???.

RW> It had a window type of OS?

Yep!, Commodore even sold a Mouse that worked with GEOS.
IIRC CBM had two mouse models for sale, one of my friends got a
C= Mouse to use for GEOS.

GEOS had applications for Writing and Painting.
There were others but I'm not able to recall any others.
Probably Wikipedia has a Commodore GEOS page to tell all about it.

EV> I can't remember if it required you to 'wind it down' like all the
EV> MS Windows OSs expected to be done so it could keep its act in order.

RW> You wouldn't be very happy with it if it dumped your pgms out
RW> of memory before it had a chance to save any work you've done.

Anytime the Lights Blinked in my room, the C=64 and whatever I was
doing was lost.
If I was typing in a PRG from a Magazine I periodically Saved what
I was doing in case my A.C. Power was interupted.

Last year when I was using the Commodore 64 for something, my wife
flipped the wall switch as she left my room, just a short BLINK!,
but the Boot Screen came up on my C=64.

Since that happened I ran a extension cord from the UPS over to the
Power Strip the Commodore gear is plugged in to.

EV>> I can't remember for sure if Windows 3.x had a Registry or not, I'm
EV>> thinking it didn't, but I'm not for sure about my thoughts.

RW>> I'm not sure anymore either. I haven't used it in 15+ years and
 RW>> glad to report that.

I looked and Yes!, Windows 3.1 has a Registry.
-snip-
EV> I "think" I remember reading to do a Save To Desktop type procedure
EV> just before doing any changes to the Registry, or something like
EV> that, 'Just In Case' the Registry got corrupted, or power went off,
EV> etc. while doing some editing in it.

RW> Making a backup of the registry before you proceed with making
RW> any changes to it will help you recover from things that go
RW> bang in the night. It's best to keep that backup off of the
 RW> boot drive.

 EV> Safety First!

You're Right!, it Should be on another HDD instead of me putting
it on the Desktop as MS suggests to do.
THANKS!
