APC also makes non-SMART models.  I have no idea about what their non-SMART
stuff is like.  Never have even tried it.  My comment only reflects on the
SMART type stuff.  APC isn't the only firm that offers the SMART option. The
word refers to the ability for a UPS to handle this problem in the best way
possible.

Eimac 4-400 tubes.  I originally built my first 40 meter CW higher power amp
with 811's.  Then moved upwards to the 4-250 stuff.  As a First Class FCC
broadcast engineer even back in high school here at College Station, where I
was working at the WTAW radio as I moved from high school forward, WTAW was a
1KW station.  Their transmitter had 4-400 tubes in it.  I studied the service
records for them at the station and really liked what I saw.  Which got me to
move forward to them when I was building my own stuff as I went forward
collecting all the 40 meter CW countries for my goal to apply for the first
ever 300 country ARRL DXCC award.

Another little bit here, grin.  Three phase roller motors are more of an issue
if that is what you are switching.  Is that what an 'Off Ice' is really all
about, grin?  How you reaally move forward?  Which I suspect most bossies
really don't know anything about like you do Ed?  :)

Less of a problem way back then because before we went to switching type power
supplies. all of the receivers, transmitters, TV sets and so on had pig iron
tranformer power supplies in them.  As well even if you are using something
with a motor; that's not allways the risk issue.  Eventually you just roll
forward into 'normal' operation as well as eventually with the pig iron power
transformer supplies that just eventually build up whatever the user unit needs
for a DC power source.  Also the storage capacitors in the DC power supply side
can solve the phase error issues as well.

Enter the next generation solid state switching suppies of today.

They can be a real MESS for stuff including lightning strike damage when what
is supposed to be a ground wire third round pin 'protector' on your power cord
ain't really ground at all and can completely blow up things where it transfers
even thousands of volts into the 'ground' stuff on your printed circuits in
today's 'neat little' TV, Audio and all the modern 'we like it' stuff today.

Plus .. where are we all going with NANO TECHNOLOGY in the future?  And what
will be argued, I suspect, as should have been probably spelled NONO
TECHNOLLOGY.
