Howdy! Again Mark,

I was confused again, I was thinking that a Hex Number in the MAC
Address that had two letters, was greater than 255, DUH, I forgot
255 is Hex FF, what I saw was something like BD in the MAC Address.
Sorry - I guess I'll never get close to becoming Mister Know-It-All.

Thanks for that.

Looks like I got another Search to do to see about 'Public DNS Servers'
and if I would be interested in them.
Probably not, because I don't run any servers here.

EV> I do apprciate all the help everyone is giving me.

EV> Last night before I switched from the Limited Users Account to a
EV> Admin Account, I unplugged the CAT-5 wire from the back of the XP
EV> box, and while in the Admin Account I plugged it back in and saw a
EV> strange mix of numbers in the IP Address.

ml> "strange mix"?? can you provide an example? it may be that you

Yes!, it did start with 169.
Does a Local-LInk-Address of 169 settle down to a 192 number if left
alone? Thanks.

EV> After playing with it a while, I right-clicked the LAN icon on the
EV> Network Connection page in CP and Disabled the LAN, and then
EV> Enabled the LAN a short time later, and lo and behold it gave me a

ml> basically what you did was to force your networking to drop the

Yep, but I 'had' to open a Admin Account to do that procedure.
I ain't figured out how to get the other Control Panel options to be
put on my XP desktop so I can right-click - RunAs... on it as I did
for the Clock Option, when I want to see the Seconds display in the
Clock window.

C:\windows\system32\timedate.cpl is what the shortcut Properties are
set at, and I use that icon when I want to see the Computer Clock Time
so I can adjust a portable clock in my room and carry it around the
house to set my clocks to the correct time.
