I wrote it wrong!  Should have been 117NC as I'm the NC of Net 117.  So your
internet check wasn't related to this.  But OK, chortle, I'll add a bit you
could check relative to the tail numbers, which I've never done in years. The
original Beech Baron that showed up as a brand new airplane out at the
Easterwood airport that was sold new by Houston Beechcraft was N7826R.  I'd
have to look up the dates in my pilot logbooks I still have, but, in general I
flew it for a few years until as part of the largest USA Federal Excise Tax
case I know of in US history, 'our case', which the boss and so on did NOTHING
wrong and were found such in the case, there wasn't money to pay the the money
due on the plane.  Which the Fed's also filed a lien against it and you won't
believe this but it is true.  To keeo it from being flown to even keep the
company alive, the Feds chained it to the inside steel framework of the hanger
with a steel chain with TWO INCH thick links!  At this time in the early 1970's
the founder of Beechcraft died and his wife was running it.

She tried to recover N7826R for payment failure and was horrified at that huge
chain deal!  So one night they came up and cut the chain off with a cutting
torch and flew it back to Houston to re-sell it.  Ahah!  She found that she
couldn't clear the title in just another trickle part of this case with over
1,250,000 written page documents in it.  So the only way that Beechcraft could
ever do anything with it was to somehow keep it flying for the Beech folks.  So
they used it for years for multi-engine pilot training and, so told me, went
through two engine re-builds that way with it!  Then eventually after the USA
Federal Judge axed the case totally in favor against the Feds, I think Beech
finally sold it if my memory is correct.

Anyway, to even be able to survive, my 'boss' made a deal to take over the
payments on a lease for another newer Beech Baron, N81UC that I was given to
fly later after the other one was romped off to Houston.  I flew it for many
hours until about the mid-1970's as part of the case.  I never knew it until
later, but that N81UC was actually the first airplane that the founder of the
FedEx outfit originally owned!  As part of the case my 'boss' had to eventually
give it up and the final few years until the first supposedly final Federal
Court ruling in our company's favor in 1983 was made.  But I wound up not
flying airplanes any longer around that time.  Sort of emotionally hard to keep
going that way when bullet holes wind up in your airplane just to remind you of
various unhappy people with what you caught them doing to lie, cheat and steal
from you and busted them for doing.
