Depending on what the user intends, that may be the prudent
advice. There have certainly been positive discussions here
of Win95; I believe that Alan was using it not long ago.

I guess you haven't paid close attention. There are adept Linux
users here, including Ross. Even so, the nature of some of the
more recent distros (GUIs, wizards, dialog boxes, etc.), makes
mastery of the subsystem much less necessary.

CA> The same comments in the LINUX echo might illicit comments from
CA> more experienced Linux users as to the validity of the newbies

You mean scorn, like you received about DOS? :-) If that's an
indication of the relevance of the response, I suppose you've
answered your own question. ;-) From what I've gathered, that
group is as ignorant about what they call "bloated" distros as
 they are about Windows.

AZ> I'd like to see some comments from other WIN95-readers...
AZ> what would you like to see (and not see) in this echo-area?
AZ> If we can develop some sort of concensus, I would be happy
AZ> to moderate around it-- and even to try to stick to it

CA> I don't envision this echo as the multi-boot echo nor a place
CA> to gather advice as to what Linux distibution is 'best'. I read
CA> this echo to learn more about Windows (all versions after W31).

There are users here (especially those with networks, i.e., multiple
systems) who may find Linux a cost effective alternative to multiple
copies of Windows. These users may not necessarily abandon Windows,
but may choose to integrate the two platforms, especially considering
that Linux supports Windows networks, and that there may be tasks
they need that can't be performed with Linux, or vice versa.

I do agree with Alan and CS though, that some Windows relationship
 to the thread should exist.

 Regards,

 Robert Fowler
