That attitude you mention above, IMO, is what drives many would be Linux
users away.  Compiling source code, or for that matter, learning how to
put together a package for installation requires quite a bit of
learning on the part of the user.  However, with the use of Synaptic or
KPackage installing new software is much easier.  The catch of course is
not all Linux software is available direct from distro repositories where
Synaptic or KPackage can be used.

Anyway, thanks for posting the info about Linspire.
