JG>On 09-16-05, JAY EMRIE said to JEFF GUERDAT:

JG>JE>Jeff, we fully realize most of the above. However, digital projectors,
JG>JE>like most any other device are not ALL the same. Some will project a
JG>JE>better image than others regardless - they all have lenses do they not?
JG>JE>Not all lenses are equal. As far as affording - just what dollar value
JG>JE>are you intimating?

JG>Heh! I never explored that end of the spectrum. Since they start at $2k
and
JG>go up quickly, I could easily imaging $10k. An old racing axim - speed
costs
JG>money. How fast do you want to go?

Actually, digital projectors start at $600 - $700 and go on UP! from
there. I see them advertised at about 3K.

JG>JE>PicturesToExe cannot - will not - MAKE a better image nor will any other
JG>JE>program including Irfanview when manipulation is not to be done after
JG>JE>the image has been submitted. PicturesToExe provides better and easier
JG>JE>image sorting and rearrangement than any other like program we have
JG>JE>looked at. That is the reason for selecting it - so far.

JG>Cool. I was concerned that you somehow thought that the output would
somehow
JG>look better. I have no problem at all with intelligent choices based on
solid
JG>facts like you're doing.

JG>JE>No, the digital imaging is to be a separate category as opposed to
JG>JE>prints, slides, etc. The limitation of the device? That is what we are
JG>JE>trying to determine for each possibly considered projector. What is the
JG>JE>limitations of particular digital projectors, therefore which ones are
JG>JE>best? They can't all be the same, can they?

JG>I'm sure there's quite a difference in quality of various components in each
JG>device. At least in slide projectors you had something of a choice in
lenses
JG>- dunno if that's available for projectors.

Only a few projectors seem to offer a lens choice. We really hadn't
considered that.

JG>JE>Have you ever gone to a workshop presentation by a "master"
JG>JE>photographer when he uses a digital projector for showing his work and
JG>JE>giving instructions aimed at teaching one to do better photography? They
JG>JE>try to select the best digital projector available for that purpose.
JG>JE>That is what we are aiming for.

JG>No, I haven't, and I think that would be enlightening (pun intended).
JG>However, even there I suspect that the emphasis is on technique and not
JG>equipment (yes, I know that the projector isn't a normal part of the
JG>photographic process). There may be less of an emphasis on what projector
is
JG>used as long as it allows demonstration of depth of field and various other
JG>subtle tricks. After all, if you can't project full resolution, it's a bit
of
JG>a crap shoot as to what artifacts show up on the screen.

Well, yes the emphasis is on technique and instructional aspects, BUT
they want their example of "good" to be really good looking.

JG>I'd love to know what you end up with.

Will inform all when we make a decision.

By the way. Remember my missing My Computer icon with t he laptop
without a CD reader?
Well, it turned out to be a case of his renaming the My Computer icon to
"Exit". I didn't pay any attention to that named icon which was midst a
bunch of other icons - as is often normal on many user's desk tops. Once
I noticed the name and clicked on it the contents were definitely My
Computer contents.

Problem solved.

Jay
