Windows and it's accumulation of third party applications is
also a learning curve. If a person is not intimidated by that
then I see no problem learning to use linux and _it's_ many
applications.

Not unusual that once you get past whatever is not familiar to
you the rest is easier. This is particularly true when teaching
algebra or geometry to a group of students. Each person has a
sticking point but each is different than the others. Without
help they would give up and never get beyond that point.

I'm not denying that patience is required but you could have a
boat load of patience and be stuck at some point that your past
experience cannot help you overcome and stay at that point
indefinitely without help.

The above is repeated frequently but in all honesty I have no
idea what "habits" people are referring to. I _would_ say that
those who never really learned to use the DOS command line
probably have no idea how similar DOS is to *nix in that regard.
