I hadn't thought of that possibility. There are many machines
out there that have no floppy drive.

Strange that Microsoft hasn't either fixed or removed this
so-called 'wizard' and even stranger still those who claim
sucess using it?

I almost hate to try it and find out. I struggled 3 different
evenings for 3 hours each trying to find what I had 'missed'
along the way that was preventing me from connecting the XP to
the W98SE machine.

This is true. You can search for tutorials and find many
variations making many different assertions that
this/that/other protocols are the proper ones to be using.

I'm guessing that the problems with finding accurate advice for
the parameters is because many (if not most) just kept tweaking
till it worked then stopped. They may have a working network
setup but really have no idea how they got it to work. 

There are no reasons I am aware of that one set of parameters
that worked on two machines shouldn't work on any other set of
machines but I read things like choose in a range of
xxx.xxx.128 to xxx.xxx.255? Why can't the author of these
tutorials just type in the EXACT parameters he/she used that
are working for them. Why the 'range' cr*p? What makes them
think my hardware can't function with their same parameters? 

Then I read choose a 'workgroup name'. What did HE/SHE choose!? 

It's like they are afraid that if you knew what they had done
you might laugh at them or throw stones in their direction.
