GV>I'm Sorry to disagree with you on this one..
GV>Stiction was an intirely different problem.

100% correct.

GV>IMHO, Freezing a HD with Stiction would not work well
GV>because Freezing the HD would solidify the Lubricant
GV>that caused the Stiction problem in the first place.

Also 100% correct

GV>I fought Stiction problems also..

GV>Early SEAGATE HD were manufactured with a
GV>poor quality Lubricant that leaked out onto
GV>the Platters and Read/Write heads when it
GV>heated up, and would Gell when cooled off
GV>when the Computer was shut down or went into
GV>Hibernation.

I was under the impression that the lubricant was actually applied to
the platter surfaces during manufacture to lessen the possible head to
platter damage during start up and stopping.

GV>The Gelled Lubricat would Stick the platters
GV>together, or even more damaging, the Gelled

Whoa! How on earth would platters stick together?
Multiple platter HDs had RW heads BETWEEN the platters - remember?
Heads sticking to platters - you betcha!

GV>Lube would Stick the Read/Write Heads to the
GV>Platter and Booting the computer or trying to

GV>Some DATA on the Plater where the
GV>Read/Write Head was stuck..
GV>On some Early HD you had to Park the
GV>Read/Write Head before shuting down the computer
GV>to keep the Read/Write Head from laying
GV>on the Platter over some Data area..

Correct - there were "parking" routines for that.

GV>The ONLY two Practical solutions to Stiction was:

GV>1.) Leave the Computer ON 24/7 as most BBS
GV> Sysops were prone to do, or

GV>2.) Replace the HD with a different Brand HD

Well, there was one other sometimes solution:
Bang on the side of the computer case on startup!

GV>Seagate HD in the Late 1970's and early 1980's
GV>seemed to be the primary HD with Stiction..
