one of my Neighbor's has a new two year old Gateway
computer with Windows XP Home, 2.3ghz with 1 gig memory
and 80 Gig HD connected to the internet with Road Runner
Cable modem, and Never Updated since they turned it on..
The Windows FireWall was ON, but the six month Trail version
of McAdfee had long ago expired..

Also they had a two teenage Kids boy and girl
that were on the Internet constantly, downloading
Games, Music and two different "IM" instant messengers..


They Asked me to take a look at their Computer, becuse
it had problems, Extremely Slow, and would no longer
accept Email downloads, and MSIE would not complete a
connection to any website with Window Errors..




I check available Free drive space on the 80 Gig drive
and there was Only 1 or 2k of free space.. :-))

the Temporary Internet Files area fir IE had 3 Gigs of trash
that I cleaned out, then I checked the downloads folder
and found 60 gig's of music and games..

The Parants asked me to DELETE all of the files
in the Download area,

then I Installed Ad-Aware and AVG..

AVG found and deleted over thirty Virus's and Trojans

and Ad-Aware found over 600 Spyware files on the first
run that took over and found another 200 on the
second run... and 34 more on the 3rd run..  Whew!

I then let the Windows Optimizer run and told them to
leave the Computer alone until it finished, and went home

8 hours later, the called me and said it had fished defraging
the HD, so I went back over and Installed the Free
version of ZoneAlarm andset it up..

and Blocked out several of the Games that tried to run
and Uninstalled some more Software that the Parents wanted
to Delete..

I gave them a short list of things to do on a regulare basis
to keep their computer running, and
a list of Cautions on what not to let their
Kids do on the Computer.. :-))
