I'm not (currently) telnetting to juge.com for the Fido stuff...
instead, as I described, getting my Fido fix using Usenet software from
darktech.org.

The other problem I mentioned, the slowness of Shaw's Usenet server
affects me when I use it to access other Usenet newsgroups... moreover,
it's inaccessible to me when I'm not at home (unlike darktech.org)...
Shaw's SMTP and NEWS servers can only be accessed from within their
network. That's less of a problem with e-mail, since I can use their
webmail, but the newsgroups are inaccessible to me right now- since I'm
up at Sechelt.

So if anyone has a good, fast (free) Usenet server that's not tied into
a local ISP to recommend, I would be happy to give it a try. (A bonus
would be if it listed regional groups-- I subscribe to
vancouver.forsale, for instance-- along with the more standard
alt.something and comp.something groups).
