Well, that's a different twist.

Better re-read it, then. These are the only ways to create a bootable CD.
These are why the various software packages support them. The only way to
create a bootable ISO image is to use the hex editor, etc. that you refer to
above - basically, create a boot loader for the CD that will start a program
elsewhere in the CD structure. The other options are to use a bootable floppy
or hard drive and get the software to read the boot info so it can be written
appropriately as a boot loader on the CD. The various MS bootable CDs are all
done in no emulation mode. It's easy to tell - floppy emulation will refer to
the boot session as A; even if there's a floppy drive installed.

Except that he wanted to copy his XP disk to removable media. There's no way
to use an XP or Bart CD to run off CD as if from an existing installation. DVD
would have the capacity but not the writeability.

JG>> You may be able to use a DVD but whether the software

Seems like most Linux vendors support that. Of course, that doesn't have
anything to do with Jason's request.

GH> This why you want something like the BartPE disk.

Won't help except to repair or twiddle with the system when not booted from the
hard drive. As I understood the question, it had to do with making a usable
copy of his OS on CD...
