What you have said is all true as far as it goes. There has
been considerable focus here in Win95 on _installs_ both
pro/con referring to many different OS. The install for most OS
involves one afternoon (unless it's OBERON). I am referring to
the weeks-months-years that follow when trying to _use_ the
installed OS to produce something of value to the user of the
OS. 

Trying to locate a particular menu to turn a function on/off
seemed difficult when using W31 'ini' files but at least the
editor could offer it's 'find' function to give you some
assistance. Searching among the _maze_ of menus in versions of
Windows that followed W31 and the altered naming conventions to
accommodate the all-encompassing registry gave me the feeling I
had never configured ANY version of Windows before. The time I
had spent with W31 was a total wash and I was back to square
one (for the most part) struggling as any 'newbie' would. 

Linux was in it's infancy and only the MacIntosh offered
enough third party software to satisfy my 'wants' but at a much
higher price for both hardware and software. 

I slogged ever onward trying to get a 'fix' on the 'new'
arrangement (the registry) while skipping every other Windows
version. I am now using "Windows Media Center" and not always
enjoying the experience. I _did_ buy enough hardware to support
Vista but I believe with all my heart that Vista will rearrange
and reword enough to push me back very close to 'newbie' again
and I'm not all that excited about that prospect.
