Do you REALLY want an answer to that??  ;)

First off, it's the original Administrator account password, not one for 
the account created during the first boot into the full OS.  It may well 
be blank, depending on how/who did the installation.  You can set the 
local policies by opening the Administrative Tools control panel and 
open the Local Security Policy selection.  That opens a new screen - 
expand Local Policies and then click on Security Options.  Scroll down 
until you see 2 items starting with "Recovery console" - double-click on 
  the "Allow automatic administrative logon" and enable it.  Voila - no 
more recovery console login prompt.

As to why the system started up, dunno.  I assume that it rebooted and 
worked as opposed to reacting to CTRL-ALT-DEL and continuing on from the 
  CD boot.  I suspect it was just a glitch (hardware?) that prevented 
the system from booting in the first place and somehow booting from CD 
allowed the system to work.  Perhaps the hard drive hadn't become ready 
before and extra time was needed?  Prick up your ears and listen for 
weirdness...
