The problem is that there isn't a way to eject the upgrade CD during the
installation process (remember, Macs don't have eject buttons on their
CD drives)... so the Upgrade CD fails when it pauses to allow you to
eject the CD, insert an older version, then eject that and re-insert the
XP disc.

Eject on the Macs is a software-controlled process, that isn't available
at that stage in the installation.

I'm not sure why other Windows versions won't work-- I tried installing
Win2000, which didn't work.

Of course, if you already own an upgrade copy of XP, presumably it's
already installed on another system... installing it again would be in
violation of licensing. (I must admit that I used my (full-install) copy
of XP in that way-- but it was only in use for a few days, then I
deleted the installation before returning my test system to Apple).

I did some benchmark comparisons between XP installed using Boot Camp
(i.e. booting directly to XP) and running in a virtualized session using
Parallels Workstation on the same system (a 1.8 GHz Core Duo processor
iMac) using SiSoft Sandra. Much to my surprise, the Parallels
Workstation virtual session scored slightly higher.

Note however that there are some limitations with the virtualized
session- mainly due to a lack of 3D video acceleration. I doubt you're a
heavy gamer, so that may not be a big deal. Sound worked, but long
sounds (like the Windows startup sound) suffered some breakup.

I was testing Beta 2 (of Parallels Workstation)-- I found USB support
somewhere between poor and non-existent... hopefully the release version
(which I haven't tested) does better.
