Windows, since W98SE, hasn't been all that bad IMO. I have been
able to use it to produce many interesting results that
entertain me and many others. I'm referring to websites, music,
digital photography, and now even video (home movies) burned to
DVDs. 

The oft mentioned OSX from Apple may be easier to use for these
purposes but at twice the price my question would be "Why?". I
see no need to pay twice the price to achieve comparable
results. 

Linux, OTOH, hasn't had the ability to produce the same media
with the same ease and even now probably cannot. I say probably
because I am no linux 'guru'. I read the reviews as new linux
software becomes available and trust those who write the
reviews to be relatively unbiased.

I _used_ to write a good deal of the software that I used on a
daily basis. Most computer owners do NOT program in _any_
computer language. Most people who drive an automobile cannot
do their own repairs and do not build their own automobiles
(which I can _also_ do). Nothing wrong with that, it is
'normal'.

I can definitely relate to that. I too am 'tired'. I am tired
of being told how great an OS is and then discovering it's
incomplete and parts of it have _never_ worked properly. I
refer here to dialup internet access as a GLARING ommission
since over half of the USA continues to use dialup internet
access. In the past I have rewritten the non-functional code to
get the OS online (OBERON and 3 different mini-linx installs).
I'm having a difficult time trying to convince myself to do
this anymore for ANY OS ever again. In short, I am tired.

Based on what I've experienced I would have to agree with you
that linux is not going to work out for you but I would add
that it's not going to work out for quite a few others as well.
Few 'gurus' of (name) OS want to spend time fixing the 'basic'
functions and without those basic functions working the OS is a
piece of CRAP.
