Ärende: slowdown of late
========================
CA>Windows, since W98SE, hasn't been all that bad IMO. I have been
CA>able to use it to produce many interesting results that
CA>entertain me and many others. I'm referring to websites, music,
CA>digital photography, and now even video (home movies) burned to
CA>DVDs.

I agree that Win98Se hasn't been too bad except for a few glitches like
hte "Failure to Shutdown" problem(The MS patch is basicly a Joke and
does little to nothing for the problem)that pops up once in a while.

BUT Win ME is a nightmare. I can see why it died such a Quick Reath in
the Market.
And WinXP is just a convoluted mess of problems lurking ot Biute you
just ot show yuo Who is in Charge. And that dsoen't even address my
Anger at being Treated like a Thief with the Assainine Activiation crap.
IT only inconvineces the HONEST people and does absolutly nothing to
deter pirating the OS by the "Professionals". :-( :-(

CA>The oft mentioned OSX from Apple may be easier to use for these
CA>purposes but at twice the price my question would be "Why?". I
CA>see no need to pay twice the price to achieve comparable
CA>results.

CA>Linux, OTOH, hasn't had the ability to produce the same media
CA>with the same ease and even now probably cannot. I say probably
CA>because I am no linux 'guru'. I read the reviews as new linux
CA>software becomes available and trust those who write the
CA>reviews to be relatively unbiased.

CA>TW> And before anyone asks what is my Excuse I concider myself
CA>TW> just as STUPID as the rest of the Leming Crowd that uses
CA>TW> Windows.

CA>I _used_ to write a good deal of the software that I used on a
CA>daily basis. Most computer owners do NOT program in _any_
CA>computer language. Most people who drive an automobile cannot
CA>do their own repairs and do not build their own automobiles
CA>(which I can _also_ do). Nothing wrong with that, it is
CA>'normal'.

CA>TW> My only rationalization is that I am Old and Very tired and
CA>TW> am not about to try and learn another Operating system.

CA>I can definitely relate to that. I too am 'tired'. I am tired
CA>of being told how great an OS is and then discovering it's
CA>incomplete and parts of it have _never_ worked properly. I
CA>refer here to dialup internet access as a GLARING ommission
CA>since over half of the USA continues to use dialup internet
CA>access. In the past I have rewritten the non-functional code to
CA>get the OS online (OBERON and 3 different mini-linx installs).
CA>I'm having a difficult time trying to convince myself to do
CA>this anymore for ANY OS ever again. In short, I am tired.

CA>TW> Although I did make make some trial incursions into Linux
CA>TW> but soon realized that I was in WAY over my head and it was
CA>TW> just not going to work out for me.

CA>Based on what I've experienced I would have to agree with you
CA>that linux is not going to work out for you but I would add
CA>that it's not going to work out for quite a few others as well.
CA>Few 'gurus' of (name) OS want to spend time fixing the 'basic'
CA>functions and without those basic functions working the OS is a
CA>piece of CRAP.
