I installed the Linux version of Audacity (just a package to install via 
yum) and it's dependencies.  I loaded in the MP3 and looked for a 
convenient place to split (just a big enough dead space where the 
speaker's voice stopped and paused).  I then selected the area from the 
beginning to the cursor (File, Select) and exported the selection as a 
WAV file (File, Export Selection to WAV).  I then selected from the 
cursor to the end and exported that selection as a WAV.  Write the WAV 
files to CD.

There's also the ability to split (Edit, Select, Start to Cursor 
followed by Edit, Split).  This gives you two tracks, stacked in the 
display.  I used the Edit, Find Zero Crossings based on the help file to 
try to ensure no pops at the beginning and end of the tracks but I don't 
know that I needed to, based on how I selected in the first place.  Then 
you just use the File, Export Multiple to select your format and naming 
and off you go.  I found that since I had selected from start to cursor, 
which placed this section on the bottom trace, the beginning section was 
saved as the second WAV file.  To keep it simpler, just select from 
cursor to end and do the splitting/saving.

All in all, very easy to do.  Just place the cursor someplace near where 
you like to do the split and then zoom in to locate the appropriate 
place to do so.
