What I meant was - are you still looking for

Good. If you're making a "file-by-file" backup your 
problem is solved.

Typical for an image program. Change over to "file-by-file"
and you'll be fine.

Yup - that's the way to do it. Find a friend or neighbor
with Partition Magic ("partd" is a similar freeware 
program - but I'm not sure it's suitable for a 250GB drive.)

(I usually advise against "partd" since its' theory
of operation seems suspect to me. Allota people are
happy with it and I haven't been able to show the 
kind of failure I expect ... YMMV.)

Since you are preparing a "full backup," once you have it
and have tested it ... you an do a destructive 
repartition without concern.

Suppose you have just cloned your old drive and
the old drive is your full backup on the shelf.
Repartition your drive and re-clone it!

The M$ utilities do destructive partitioning
on new *or* used drives. Use PartitionMagic or
the Acronis "Disk Director."

I got a 160GB drive a year ago - and I chose three
partitions. A 30GB NTFS for WinXPP, a 20GB FAT32
for backup images and sharing files with Win98SE
systems and 100GB for storing images ... photos,
movies,etc. The biggest use is Debian Linux
DVD images ... about 30GB worth!
