Hello, Jean. Joueux Noel!! We were last seen here talking about - -

< >
JH> There are only three jacks for sound on the back of the board. Top to
 JH> bottom, they are - -
JH> Green- Line Out - for connecting earphones or external amplified
 JH> speakers
JH> Blue- Line In - for connecting external output from cassette player,
JH> CD player, audio from VCR or etc.
JH> Pink- Microphone In - for connecting an external microphone.

JP> Indeed these are so coloured and setup. After reading this
JP> note of yours, I pulled the case forward and connected the headset
JP> as: sound-top then bottom-mic and it all worked. I was able to
 JP> phone my Bro in Quebec City all 5 x 5. < >

Ta Daa! Glad to hear it is now working for you.

JP> So, I only have one destination for audio, either the headset
JP> or the speakers never both at the same time. I cn live with this.

Well, the splitter cable idea we talk about below might work OK. With
the speakers hooked up but not turned on, there might not be any trouble
with possible impedance foulups. In any event, the prob (which I have)
of crawling around on the floor and messing with back-of-box connectors
could be avoided.

< >

JH> If you want to leave your speakers connected while using Skype, you
JH> may be able to do this by trying a stereo audio "splitter" (Y) cable.
JH> This may work, or may cause some impedance mismatch problems.

JP> This Y is an option that I will consider. I do not know if the
JP> cable would be available in store but this willy old Ham can sure
 JP> build one.

I did a quick look last night at Radio Shack online - - looks like they
do have such a cable, for $5 or so, maybe for order only online. Those
cables are made so that two people can listen to something like a
portable CD player.

Simplest for a more convenient cable swap would be an extension cable
with male one end, female on the other. Route the female end to a
reachable location for cable swap from speakers to headset. Of course,
you could build a "splitter" with a couple of 1/8" stereo jacks. If I
were going to try that, I'd thik about installing them in one of those
plastic containers that 35mm photo film comes in.

JP> This reminds me... I wonder if
JP> there is a "better" AMD that would fit this socket 10 ??? Like a 3
JP> GHz one ? Or is this the top one for this MoBo and socket ? I
JP> really do not want this if only for the fun ot if.

That's Socket A /Socket 462. There is a cpu support table at the
Gigabyte website - -

http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard//CPUSupport_List.aspx

Once there, enter GA-7DX under Option 1, then select GA-7DX from the
options shown. The table shows that the regular issues of the board
could support the .18 Micron Athlon XP Palomino chips up to XP2100, and
the .13 Micron XP Thoroughbred chips up to XP2600, both at 266 FSB
speed.

What I can't remember right now is if this "Frankenstein" version 2.2 of
the board can support 266 FSB. It may be that it only supports 200FSB
and Athlon Thunderbird only up to 1.4GHz, since it is missing the
jumper block for SW1. I don't have the MicronPC manual handy just
now, but BIR in that, the FSB speed could be adjusted in Setup. But that
was with the BIOS from MicronPC which came on the board. You may want to
take a look in Setup with the Gigabyte BIOS code, and see if FSB speed
can be adjusted to 133/266 in Setup.

Maybe we can talk about this a bit more after the holidays.
