re. Mac costs-- the problem that I have when you write this, is that you
tend to refer to one particular Mac model and compare it to all/any
PC... you can always find a 'valid' PC cheaper than ANY Mac model, but
that doesn't mean that the Mac model in the flyer that you're referring
to is the most affordable 'valid' Mac model.

Similarly, in older messages, you've tended to refer to your son's habit
of purchasing top-end Mac laptops, and then compare their pricing to
low-end PC laptops, ignoring that Apple markets more affordable laptops
which your son didn't buy.

You've got to compare Apples and oranges.

When you do that, I think you'll find:

- the cheapest PCs are cheaper than the cheapest Macs
- when you match (as much as possible) features, Macs tend to be about
the same price as similarly-equiped brand-name PCs... in some cases,
when you do that, the Mac turns out to be cheaper, in some cases quite a
bit cheaper.

Your point about not being able to home-built a Mac is certainly true,
however.
