There is no PKZIP for Linux, it's just called ZIP and has all
the functions of PKZIP. Although these days the GUI achiever
is generally ARK which handles most compression types.

No but i can sometimes read code and get a general idea of what
it's up to. I can write scripts but i'm no expert.

The original author made it free for none commercial users before
he died. He was arguably the the pioneer of the concept of archiving.

You really off the beaten track with that remark. Let me repeat

I don't expect anyone to work for free although some do. It
is their choice.

of job offers.

Why should i pay for something the author made free to non commercial

I'll pay for any software i use if it is required.

Nooo i use what is public domain, although in some cases i give
feed back to the author. Somewhat like a beta tester.

Since i payed for for the computer and it's operating system
why should i even think of looking for something else?

The first thing i did was install Linux. WinXP doesn't have to 
be erased. I have both on the same machine. Ever heard of boot 
loaders?
