Use Tweak UI, then, to force it.

Most, if not all, modern drives supposedly will map out bad sectors 
transparently if they are detected.  However, it may be that you need to 
use the manufacturer's utility to "LLF" (not really) the drive.  This 
has the advantage of the manufacturer's inside knowledge of the drive to 
do a more robust verification (scandisk/chkdsk only perform  read 
operations while the utility will destructively write patterns to 
determine success or failure).  It should also allow you to choose a 
quick or rigorous test to determine the true status of the drive.  Using 
a DOS or other OS built-in utility simply is not a conclusive test.

I've successfully resurrected "faulty" drives using these routines.  I 
wouldn't even bother with anything else...
