Ärende: Just a little behind schedule

Hello All,

I have finally got the Intel 2.4GHz machine up and running _AND_ I believe
it is stable (I was previously having problems with the Intel 82566DC
Gigabit Network Connection, ATI Radeon Sapphire X1800XL graphics card, and
the Intel Sigma Tel Audio drivers all disappearing from the registry).

Yes August, I know that I missed my planned startup schedule, but working a
sixty hour week does not afford much time for anything other than eating
and sleeping.  So, by skipping a couple of meals and two sleeps, I have
Windows XP Pro installed, activated and updated with seventy-seven updates,
upgrades, fixes and patches.  I still don't have the IE updated, but I'm
sure that M$ will eventually send that one down the pipe.  The Windows
Media Player upgrade will have to be initiated later by myself (it's not an
automatic upgrade like the IE).

After struggling with the different Intel driver / program updates (there
were six different ones that _HAD_ to be installed), I installed MS .NET
Framework v2.0 (required for the ATI Catalyst software), the ATI drivers
and software, Total Install v3.83, Total Commander v6.56, MS Office 2003,
ZoneAlarm Security Suite v7.0.337.000.  I then activated XP and let it run
for an hour for the Windows updates, after which I downloaded and installed
the Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer v2.0.1 and the TweakUI utility.

I got the WGA applet (definitely required by M$ before they permit you to
have access to some of their programs, but that is NO BIG DEAL to me - they
can spy on me all they want if there is any possibility that doing so will
improve their products / service).

I am currently formatting the 750GB hard drive (already did the 500GB) and
when that is completed, I will shut down the system so that I can install
the secondary RAID SATA controller card and the four 750GB HDDs (which I
hope to set up in RAID0+1 - strip and mirror), then install the drivers for
the controller card, after which I will have to format the drive to
1,397.3GB (and that is going to take some time).

I figure that I'll let the new system run 24/7 for a week (to ensure that
M$ has applied all the patches, fixes and updates) before I install any
other programs.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who assisted and
encouraged me through this arduous task, especially my mentor, Jeff, for
tolerating my many questions (some of which were annoying <grin>).
