Good friend of mine and fellow church member rebuilds private aircraft and
aircraft engines.  He owns 6 acres of land on which he built a make shift
garage-hanger.  I've watched him completely rebuild several aircraft even to
the extent of redoing the skin.  He's also a licensed pilot who works full time
for a small company in Fort Worth that installs avionics in private and
corporate aircraft.

I'm more than willing to take on most repairs provided I can get the parts. 
Notebook computers are a slightly greater challenge though.  I'm not sure I
would be as daring as you are with them.  :)   But it's amazing to learn how
many notebook computers are thrown away or abandoned because of some defect
that could be repaired.  Back lights going bad are probably the biggest reason
people get rid of their notebook computer.  Can't blame them in a way since the
cost of professionally repairing one usually approaches that of purchasing a
new machine.

My electronic stove is like that.  I remember my grandmother cooking on a coal
fired stove!

I don't like to stand anywhere near one after watching how easily it splits a
large log.
