I sort of considered that, but W2K is not considered an upgrade from ME.
It's my understanding that my existing ME system won't cooperate with a W2K
install. I would have to do a full (clean) install of W2K to get around
that.  So.. I figure if I have to do that, I may as well consider Ubuntu or
Kubuntu.   But..  A W2K solution may help me retain the vast collection of
winapps that I've become used to.   Hmmmm..  Now you've done it.   You've
cast alternative thinking in my mind!   But a quick look at eBay hasn't
turned up any W2K cds.  Let me know if you can find any there.   But I'm
still swaying towards converting to a Linux box.  However, it won't happen
overnight.  I have to copy my important files and make notes on various
config settings.

I really like the idea of not having to cope with activation nonsense.

I guess I'm lucky then.. the new card I really want to make operational is
an nVidia.  It's a geForce 6200 LE.  It worked really well on my ME pc
initially.  But then one day the pc suddenly booted to 16-colours only, and
claimed that the drivers were corrupt or missing.  I reinstalled the
drivers, but either the 16-colour max setting persisted or the screen would
just come up blank.  I could tell that the ME OS booted fully (by the normal
sounds the box would make), but the screen did not cooperate.  When I simply
re-installed the old AGP 2x card, all booted fine.

I tested an earlier version of Ubuntu Live CD about a year ago, and it
cooperated nicely with the existing nVidia AGP 2x card at the time.
Therefore, I am feeling confident that the newer nVidia AGP 4x card will be
fine.

I have another video card that I hope to install in my eMachines pc to
replace the onboard video.  It's an ATI Radeon 9250 AGP with PCI connector.
