Ärende: annoyance of "activation"

Activation is absolutely no problem. I have had to reactivate one time
since my initial install of XP - when I had to replace a bad HD. Then no
problem either.

AA> CS> Speaking of new video cards, the ATI Radeon 9550 AGP is on sale at our
AA> CS> local Best Buy store. I almost purchased it but decided instead to do
AA> CS> some research on whether or not that card is suitable for Linux. I
found
AA> CS> out that ATI cards are the most difficult to setup and get running
AA> CS> correctly in Linux. Almost everyone I communicated with recommended
the
AA> CS> nVidia series of cards instead.

AA>I guess I'm lucky then.. the new card I really want to make operational is
AA>an nVidia. It's a geForce 6200 LE. It worked really well on my ME pc
AA>initially. But then one day the pc suddenly booted to 16-colours only, and
AA>claimed that the drivers were corrupt or missing. I reinstalled the
AA>drivers, but either the 16-colour max setting persisted or the screen would
AA>just come up blank. I could tell that the ME OS booted fully (by the normal
AA>sounds the box would make), but the screen did not cooperate. When I simply
AA>re-installed the old AGP 2x card, all booted fine.

AA>I tested an earlier version of Ubuntu Live CD about a year ago, and it
AA>cooperated nicely with the existing nVidia AGP 2x card at the time.
AA>Therefore, I am feeling confident that the newer nVidia AGP 4x card will be
AA>fine.

AA>I have another video card that I hope to install in my eMachines pc to
AA>replace the onboard video. It's an ATI Radeon 9250 AGP with PCI connector.

Why so many systems? I have two desktops and two laptops (by luck). I'm
wondering what to do with the second laptop and converting over to the
second desktop. Then I will only have a desktop and a laptop.
