There are several Real Minature Hard Drives out there The New IOMEGA 20
and 40 gig drives use a 1.8 Inch platter and spn at 4200  RPM. They are
USB types and are fully powered by the USB bus and priced at $179 and
$279.
Western Digitan and Seagate have a 3600 RPM 1 Inch platter drive.
Presently they are 6 gig and 5 gig drives in the $150 - $200 range.


 This discussion aroused my Couriosity and I did a quick Net search
for "Solid State Drives". Most were USB types. Kangaru has a 4 Gig Micro
Drive and it's price is $900+ change. I also ran across Real 2 1/2 and 3
1/2 Solid State drives with up to 128 gig capacity and using the
Standard IDE or SCSI interfaces. The company mostly provides Mil
Specification drives to the Military. But they do have Industriaql
versions. Of course if you have to Ask you cannot afford them so NO
prices were mentioned. I think we are talking Really BIG Bucks.
