I believe the Parallels issue is a licensing question, not a technical one...
though there could be problems if you started with an upgrade CD and it wanted
you to eject the CD, insert an older Windows CD then eject that and return to
the original CD during installation of the virtual session.

I'd imagine it would work if, for instance, you installed a Win2000 virtual
session, then upgraded it to WinXP using an upgrade CD... assuming enough RAM
and drive space in the virtual session.

I haven't tried this, however, so can't verify it from 1st-hand experience.

(Any other specific Parallels or VMware Fusion issues that you'd like me to
test out-- drop me a line).

As I mentioned in another message, I tried VirtualBox last July, and while
appreciating their free status, found a number of key features (at least for
me) missing. Maybe they've been added since-- I haven't tried it in the past 6
months.

XP is much more usable in virtual sessions in any extent-- none of the
virtualizers do a good job with the DirectX emulation required for Vista's
Aero, and the much higher RAM and drive space requirements make it a poor
candidate for virtualization.

Stick to XP (or Win2000).
