I thought I read Alan explain, that ActiveX was required to run the Windows
updates from the MS site. I guess the answer to your question would be, "No, I
know of nothing else that requires ActiveX." I don't even know *what* ActiveX
*is.*

As near as I can ascertain, the server I am trying to tap into redirects my
first attempt to access any page, to *their* login page. (IE: My request to
bring up http://www.google.ca or any numbered address, instead goes to
http://www.calgarypubliclibrary.com/login.html, or thereabouts.) I did find a
Windows version of Firefox to *Run the script required to do a Site Survey*,
and carted off to the library yesterday, but I'm still of the opinion I need to
know their DNS spoof. Something is preventing me from looking like an XP
default setting, and I think because I have to go with a static address for my
access point, might not be helping my cause either.

You're missing the joy of making a small tweak, and carting off to the library
with it. <G+D>

I tested the box on the bench with Firefox on W98 and Linux before I left, and
both were able to contact my D-Link DWL-G810. (A wireless "Access Point",
802.11g box built for the "gamebox" type.) I also took the opportunity to
'install-packages *' on as many directories as I could while I tested the Linux
side. (Slackware 12. The, original install ran into all sorts of buffer
overflows, so as I turned on "DMA for HDs only" in the kernel, and I barged
forward.) As you might imagine, I must have rewrote a eth0 configuration, or an
executable that brings ethernet up. <Thump head> At least I learned that W98
can bring me to the same point that Linux was accomplishing the week before.
/-: (Being... Site survey accomplished, but nothing after the "negotiation." If
that's what it is called? Traffic does seem go in both directions, but nothing
seems to leave my box past the negotiation.)

... James
