Prolly hoped to sell a copy of Office, too.

You said:

"I can only insert a Dlink 650 in it, any other
card will not go home to the connector, it has a larger key on the
connector end that prevents pushing it all the way."

The inability to push the card in completely indicates a physical block
to me. I'll admit that it's possible that something is off a little on
the laptop in question and the tolerances stacked in the wrong direction
so the cards which *should* install are blocked only by a slightly small
connector surround. I can't tell that from afar, however, so my guess
is that something else is blocking it. From
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pcmcia:

The original standard was defined for both 5 volt and 3.3 volt cards.
The 3.3 V cards have a key on the side to protect them from being
damaged by being put into a 5 V-only slot. Some cards and some slots
operate at both voltages as needed.

My take is that you need to investigate more as to the
needs/capabilities of both the cards that don't fit as well as the
PCMCIA implementation in that particular laptop. Without that, all bets
are off. If it's shown that the cards should all fit and work in that
laptop, then we can look for other causes. It's possible that the fact
the DLink card doesn't work may truly imply that the laptop connector is
fubar and it's just a fluke that you happen to be able to insert it.
