Worth pointing out here is that you can control the configuration of the live
CD with a config file written by the live distro and saved to HD. It is then 
called at the initialization at the boot prompt. Knoppix uses this method to 
store configuration of such things as Desktop, network perimeters etc. 
This means you don't have to reconfigure everything when you next use the 
live CD. This however is stored as an ordinary Win/DOS file and can be 
written and deleted without harm to the HD partitioning table.
