Hold the phone. You asked, and he answered. What you do with the information
just disrespected Alan by your refusing to accept it at face value.

What he said, in case you missed it, was the same settings on XP is the
settings for ANY OS. Full stop.

This *is* one of the complications to the OS. This guy makes a distribution
dependant on a scheme for installing software, then that guy, insists his new
scheme is better. Now you have all sorts of distributions demanding: "If you
run XYZ, you must use files with an XYZ extension." Bigger hooey would be
harder to come by, but one distribution explained it, that they want to test
each piece of software to ensure your experience with their distribution
remains positive. Kinda nice of them, but there is always a longhand way to do
it, that is usually successful, and almost always harmless.
