Ärende: I've had it!
====================
Hello Gordon,

Responding to a post in the WIN95 area:
    On Tuesday March 01 2005 at 12:12,
Gordon Huff [1:106/2000] wrote to Gerald Miller,
    about: Re: I've had it!

GH> Let me jump into here too!...

Finally and by all means. I'm always willing to listen to another voice.
That doesn't mean that I'll blindly follow you, it just means that I will
take under advisement what you have to say. <g>

GM>> Should I partition the 40GB into smaller disk drives?

GH> I think so. Additional partitions are
GH> especially handy with imaging software.
GH> If your HD is one partition ... where will
GH> you write the image .. it can't go to the
GH> same partition you're trying to image.
 GH> Besides, 40GB ... that's at least eight
 GH> DVDs!

Charles S. sent me an e-mail and under his direction, I partitioned the
40GB HDD into five FAT32 partitions of approximately 8GB each. So far,
working out very well...

CA>> You're making a mistake. Tom agreed with my logic that for ease of
CA>> making backup ISO image copies two partitions was a better idea.
GH> I agree with CA and TW.....

Okay. I can't dispute such overwhelming 'logic'... ;-))

GM>>> In the event of a "catastrophic" failure of the HDD, I don't
GH> Again, I agree with CA that several kinds
GH> of failure are possible and that your backup
GH> scheme should be more flexable. I recommend
GH> an article by Gene Barlow on the subject
 GH> (go to www.ugr.com)

I went to the site... Couldn't find the article by Gene. ??

GM>> So far, I've gotten as far as making an Emergency Repair Disk.
GM>> Not quite the same thing as creating the ISO image, but it's the
GM>> best that I can do at the moment...

GH> Hmmm ... this "Emergency Repair Disk" should be
GH> the boot disk from the image program.

I _think_ it is part of the W2K Registry Recovery. I didn't totally
understand what the purpose was, but I figured that I could sacrifice a
floppy diskette. I think the diskette is tied to the WINNT\Repair
directory and will restore the Registry to the point on the day I created
the diskette. If this is correct, then I should probably be looking for a
VB program that will perform this function every time I shut down W2K. ??

GM>> I *_thought_* that one required a second HDD of equal capacity
GM>> for the ISO image copy?

 GH> That's handy ... or a second partition ...

CA>> BootitNG ... images are compressed....
GM>> BootitNG ... will ...create an ISO image that will span multiple CDs?
GH> Norton Ghost does it too!

Do you have a preference? My son gave me NSW 2001 and NSW 2003. I don't
know which one would be the better of the two and if I understand Symantec
and their consumer stategy, one can not mix and match the programs from the
two CDs.

           Thanks ... Gerald

... If I had been present at creation, I would have given some useful hints.
